Crock-pot Turkey

Today I successfully tried an experiment: I decided to cook a turkey breast in my crock-pot. Since I have a round crock, I ended up cooking a half turkey breast, as it was plenty for my husband and I, and I knew that a full one would never fit in my pot. It turned out very easy and yummy, so I thought I'd share the recipe and hopefully you can enjoy my experiment as well.

First I coated the bottom of my crock-pot with olive oil. Then I sliced up a sweet onion into four large slices (the saucer-like slices, not the quarters). I put the slices on the bottom of the pot for the turkey to rest on. Then I poured in about 20 oz of chicken broth (2/3 of a carton).

Then I washed and patted dry my turkey breast. I rubbed olive oil all over it and then sprinkled on some salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Then I crushed 3 fresh garlic cloves and put them on the turkey as well. Then I put the turkey in the crock-pot, put on the cover, and turned it on high.

SO  EASY!!!!

While my turkey breast was cooking I played a board game with my husband, did some laundry, and crocheted a bit. No sweat over what we were having for dinner!

After 3.5 hours the 1/2 turkey breast was done. It had an amazing flavor and made enough meat for leftovers this week. So good and I had to do so little to prepare it. I can definitely see this being a staple meal when I have children to care for a less time to prepare dinner.

  1. I use my crock-pot (we call them slow cookers in Aus) several times a week since I had children. I have adapted about half of my usual recipes to slow cook them instead of on the stove.
One thing I'd like to know about the turkey- did it turn out crispy on top or soft and wet? I've never done meat in a slow cooker before (being vegetarian), but I often think of cooking it for others.

  2. Hi Lauren, The turkey turned out soft and moist all over. No crispness at all. this is probably due to all the chicken broth I used.
    Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Crock pot turkey is so amazing! I love how you can just stick the bird in there, give it some flavorful little friends, turn the heat on and voila! It's one of our fave things to make for chuch dinners, when a ton of other food occupies the oven. :D

    Have a wonderfully blessed day!
