Brazilian Food

My little sister (technically stepsister) came to visit us last week for a total of 10 days. I have been in her life since she was only 7 years old, and it has been such a joy to see her grow into a beautiful and sweet nearly-18 year old.

The main reason behind her visit to us was to teach her some Portuguese. She will be an exchange student just as I was to Brazil. She will be leaving in January 2013 and coming back that same December. For the last month her and I have been doing weekly Portuguese lessons to get her prepared.

The best part of last week (I thought) was taking her to have an authentic Brazilian meal. We found this tiny place (not one of those giant Brazilian food chains) owned by a local Brazilian man. It was very informal, with nothing but some outdoor patio sets to dine on, and a grill and small cooking area outside.

The owner was a very nice man and soon enough we had an authentic Brazilian meal to eat.
Rice, beans, sausage, and meat all cooked with a TON of salt as only the Brazilians do so well. I have never seen Brazilian food with onions on it like this, but it was still good. It tasted just like the meals we ate every day at my host family's home in Brazil. I have not tasted such authentic food since I left there 6 years ago.

We also had a plate of manioc/yucca in the middle of the table which was perfectly cooked
We both enjoyed the meal a lot, and it only cost $7.99 for a plate (and I didn't even care that those plates were styrofoam!). Compare that to those Brazilian chains where you pay nearly $50 per head for very unauthentic food.

I'll be dragging my husband back to this place soon for date night.
