I have a bit of an overwhelming task ahead of me, and that is to clear our second bedroom for our baby. We recently made the decision to stay in our apartment until the baby is at least a year old, so I definitely need to get things organized before the baby comes.
This project is going to take a while, so we will call this the official "Before" picture:
What you are seeing is a mix of Christmas presents and giveaway piles I have been collecting recently. In an effort to minimize around my apartment, I have been going through every room and closet, getting rid of anything I don't deem necessary. So that is all ending up here, where it will eventually be donated (when my husband has a free Saturday to haul it all down to the car).
You will also notice that I have not one, but two keyboards in this room. The chaos! One will be going to my brother-in-law in a few weeks, but until then, it is sitting where it is.
So now can you see why I am anxious to get going on this room? We will keep the bed in this room for guests and also make it a nursery, so I am thankful this room is big enough for the dual task.
This room has two of the three total closets I have in the entire apartment. They are both this size, and I have to clear out at least one of them for baby stuff. With a family as large as mine, and all of them SUPER excited to finally have a new baby coming along, I know I am about to be bombarded with stuff. Going the minimalist route will not be an option for me, unfortunately. It's either receive lots of stuff I pick out or receive lots of stuff I didn't pick out! So yes, baby needs at least one of these closets just for him/her/
I'll be showing progress reports along the way. I know what you are thinking: "ANYTHING would be an improvement over what you've already shown us". Well you will see improvement my friends, just give me until after Christmas:)
I remember doing this to my office when we found out we were expecting our first. It was overwhelming! But about two weeks before the baby arrived it was completed. It was much harder doing it for our second baby as I had to turn our walk in closet (which was actually a bedroom that we converted into our family closet as we don't have ANY closets in our old farmhouse!) into his bedroom. Thankfully, we were able to do it in stages and by the time he was 14 months old, it was completed!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your room! It will feel so good to turn this room into a nursery! And just graciously accept the gifts as they come. People are always so excited to welcome a new baby - especially when it is your first!
Love this! We are also in an apartment and plan to stay here with baby. We currently live in the spare bedroom and use the master bedroom as our office/spare room. It's going to be chaotic with cleaning out all of the books and other trinkets we've accumulated! It is wonderful you anticipate a lot of baby items! I've been blessed with a few hand-me-downs and a crib and changing table! We won't work on the crib until I'm about 30 weeks, but I'm in the process of de-cluttering and boy- I didn't realize how much we own! Good luck with everything! It will be exciting to see the change. I'm praying for you! :)
